Quietness prevails on both the Sham Chun and Mirs Bay frontiers.

On Wednesday the 23rd inst. His Excellency the Governor and party made a tour of inspection of the frontier from

ments. At His Excellency's direction I accompanied the

party as guide.

The following is a small part of a long speech

made by Wong Kai Ming :·

"My brethern and labour friends you

must all endeavour with a strong determination to suppress the local rowdies and depraved gentry; also to over- throw British Imperialism. Now there are over ten thousand British soldiers arrived at Kowloon. The treating of our country as their enemy has now become their object. Some of these British soldiers are now in the New Territory where they have dug trenches. I therefore sincerely hope that all my good farming and labour friends will join together with one heart and mind to prevent any calamity which may befall

them
